I created this after Microsoft changed the behaviour of the
Autoplay ability. It was done to stop maleware but took away a
choice. So here is my version of Autoplay
It consists of two files. One executable called USBLoader and one
file on the removable media called Action.txt. This text file is similar
to the Autorun.inf file. This system can still be used to add an icon
and name the media
How does it work: Using Notepad or other text creation tool write a
file called Action.txt with the word RUN on the first line. On the
next line is the path to the program you wish to start on insertion of
the removable media.
The executable USBLoader is activated prior to insertion. It will
determine the drive letter of the inserted media and read and
perform the action in Action.txt. It will then remove itself. An icon
will be present when USBLoader is resident. It can be removed if
media is not to be inserted by right clicking the icon and choosing
Exit.
This utility was principly created for Control_IT which was
affected by the change to the Autoplay system.
It can be found on the Control_IT Flash drive as an install file so
that it can be applied to any computer Control_IT may be used on.
The user permissions of Vista and Win 7 can be altered. Refer to
the information page.
Also the Autoplay system of XP can also be stopped for a
particular device to stop the annoying window that appears.
